Kern County Members Approve
3-Year Contract BAKERSFIELD -- September 8, 2007 -- Approximately 79 percent of voting members of the SEIU Local 521 Kern County Chapter voted to approve a contract with the County that includes one-time equity pay increases of up to 39 percent or a 12 percent increase over three years for those job classifications not receiving equity increases.  IMPORTANT KERN COUNTY UPDATE
There have been a lot of questions regarding implementation of the contract ratified by the members on September 8. While originally slated to go before the Board of Supervisors on Oct. 9, the County did not provide contract language to our Bargaining Team until 48 hours prior to the deadline to submit items for the Board of Supervisors agenda for Oct. 9. The Bargaining Team determined that language provided by the County did not accurately reflect all the details of the agreement that members ratified on Sept. 8. The Union and County are currently working to resolve the issues as soon as possible. All members will continue to accrue retroactive pay raises based on the increases in the ratified agreement. We hope the contract will now go before the Board of Supervisors for implementation on either Oct. 16 or 23, 2007. Stay tuned for more information.
